Anise Essential Oil

star anise

Anise essential oil is not frequently used. Anise seeds are the basis for the Italian liqueur "anisette," which is a popular after-dinner drink. Its seeds are also used to make various forms of licorice, which is known in traditional medicine to aid the digestion. That is why "anisette" is an after-dinner drink: it too aids the digestion, and is also referred to as a "digestive."
