Grapefruit Essential Oil
Grapefruit essential oil is a highly concentrated essence of the fruit rind, and it has many uses in aromatherapy. Grapefruit is often eaten when dieting because of its ability to balance the blood sugar and dissolve fat cells. Its oil provides these same benefits plus some added extras. The scent helps to elevate the spirits and cleanse bad smells from the environment. It is a useful internal detoxifier as well. Pectin is a main ingredient, and studies involving pectin show that it also helps lower "bad" blood cholesterol or HDL. This oil mixes very well with many oils listed below. The only thing to watch for is not to apply it directly to the skin (as with any other essential oil), and not to go into direct sunlight after application as it may cause the skin to darken or photosynthesize.
